This Too Shall Pass

There is always an opportunity to access wisdom and healing when I’m standing in the river.

The sound and movement of the water remind me of two truths: the impermanence that is a part of this life and the eternal life force that supports and empowers me. Last week I was tubing on the river with a friend and they got caught on a log that eventually punctured the tube. Fortunately I noticed this before the current carried me down stream and I was able to grab hold of a big rock and hold myself in place. I could not do anything more but hold on and watch them try to free themselves. Eventually they worked their way free and made it over to my tube to join me. We laughed and worked together to keep the tube in the flow. Had this not happened I would have missed an opportunity to connect in a meaningful way to the power of standing still while life flows on in unpredictable ways.
